Culina Group, the UK’s leading logistics provider, has announced the launch of a new Sustainability Fund designed to support community-led initiatives that drive environmental improvement and help create a greener, more sustainable future.

The fund has been established to provide financial support to non‑profit organisations, community groups, and educational institutions, including schools and colleges. It will fund projects that help transform local communities by tackling climate change, reducing carbon emissions, and protecting or enhancing the natural environment.

Sustainability is a core pillar of Culina Group’s business strategy, ensuring environmental impact is considered in all major decisions. The Group was among the first major third-party logistics (3PL) providers in the UK to commit to Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) goals, underscoring its long-term commitment to reducing carbon emissions across its operations.

As the UK’s largest privately owned logistics supply chain partner, Culina Group delivers market‑leading service, capacity and value to some of the world’s most recognised brands. The launch of the Sustainability Fund represents the next phase of the Group’s sustainability journey, supporting not only its own decarbonisation ambitions but also those of the communities it serves.

The new fund is now open to applications and welcomes proposals for innovative green projects and sustainability initiatives that require financial support to deliver measurable environmental and community benefits.

Liam McElroy, Group CEO at Culina Group, said:

“As an organisation, we are fully committed to reducing our own carbon footprint, but we want to go further by helping others do the same. The Culina Group Sustainability Fund aims to improve the natural environment, promote long‑term sustainable behaviours, and encourage community engagement in environmental initiatives.

We are already driving a range of initiatives across the business, from introducing electric vehicles to sourcing and trialling alternative fuels. However, we know we can have an even greater impact. Through this fund, we will help educate younger generations about how they can make a positive difference, while supporting a diverse range of projects that create meaningful, lasting change within the communities we serve.”

For more information about the Culina Group Sustainability Fund, or to submit an application, visit www.culina.co.uk/sustainability.

Culina Group, the UK’s largest privately owned logistics supply chain partner, is proud to announce that its subsidiary, Fowler Welch, has won the Environmental and Sustainability Award at the 2025 TCS&D Awards.

The TCS&D Awards celebrate excellence in the temperature-controlled storage and distribution sector. The Environmental and Sustainability category recognises organisations that demonstrate measurable progress in reducing their environmental footprint through innovation, leadership, and long-term commitment.

Fowler Welch’s win reflects its, and the groups, outstanding contribution to sustainable logistics and our ambitious goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050. Through a series of practical and forward-thinking initiatives, the business has significantly reduced carbon emissions and improved energy efficiency across its operations.

At its Spalding warehouse, Fowler Welch has delivered a major transformation by installing a state-of-the-art ammonia refrigeration plant, replacing outdated HFC systems. Ammonia, a natural refrigerant with zero ozone depletion potential and low global warming potential, has dramatically improved cooling performance while reducing the site’s environmental footprint.

Wider additional measures include the introduction of LED lighting, insulated rapid doors, and air barriers, as well as the creation of insulated office spaces to reduce heat loss. These upgrades have reduced daily power consumption from 3,150 kWh to approximately 1,000 kWh—resulting in a daily carbon saving of around 382 kg, equivalent to planting thousands of trees.

Commenting on the award, Liam McElroy, Chief Executive Officer at Culina Group said:
“We are delighted to see Fowler Welch recognised for its leadership in sustainability. This achievement reflects our Group-wide commitment to investing in innovative solutions that reduce our environmental impact and set new standards for responsible logistics.”

Culina Group’s sustainability strategy is aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and supported by cross-functional teams across its businesses. The Group continues to explore renewable energy sources, smart systems, and collaborative partnerships to drive progress and inspire positive change throughout the supply chain.

Culina Group raises over £40,000 to support Hope House Children’s Hospices

Culina Group is proud to announce that it has raised over £40,000 in support of Hope House Children’s Hospices, a charity providing specialist care to children with life-threatening conditions and vital support to their families.

Hope House is a lifeline for more than 750 families across Shropshire, Cheshire and across Wales, helping every local child with a life-threatening condition live their very best life from diagnosis.

Led primarily by the team at Culina’s Market Drayton site, the fundraising total is the result of a wide range of initiatives carried out by Culina Group employees over the years.

One standout effort saw three Culina colleagues take part in a sponsored drive from Calais to Barcelona in a £200 Ford Mondeo Estate, raising over £1,000 while completing a series of fun challenges along the way. On-site charity events also contributed to the funds, including the annual Culina Group Charity Golf Day, the auction of FA Cup tickets which raised more than £1,000, as well as donating sacks of toys to the hospice at Christmas.

To mark the milestone, Culina Group CEO Liam McElroy visited Hope House, in Oswestry, accompanied by Michelle Anderson, who has led fundraising efforts within the company. During the visit, they toured the facilities and saw firsthand the difference the hospice makes to children and families.

They were also shown how donations directly support meaningful initiatives within the hospice, such as creating peaceful garden spaces for reflection and providing memory bears to families coping with loss.

As a heartfelt gesture during the visit, the children presented Liam and Michelle with a framed picture to thank Culina Group for the generous support and funds raised.

Liam McElroy, Culina Group CEO said: “It’s been inspiring to see our colleagues come together over the years to support such a meaningful cause for a local charity. Hope House provides extraordinary care and comfort to families in their most difficult moments, and we’re honoured to contribute to their mission and help give back to those in a time of need.”

Dawn Ball, Area Fundraiser at Hope House, said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Culina Logistics for their outstanding support and commitment to Hope House Children’s Hospices over the years. Reaching the incredible milestone of £40,000 is a testament to their generosity, teamwork, and dedication to making a real difference for local children and families. Thank you for standing with us and helping local children with life-threatening conditions to live their best life.”

Culina Group will continue its fundraising efforts for Hope House Children’s Hospices, which needs to raise £10 million each year to continue providing specialist and vital nursing care and practical and emotional support to children and families.

Eventor is proud to be supporting the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team in their ground-breaking mission to reduce emissions through the use of biofuel. As the team’s trusted race build and logistics support partner, Eventor is proud to support this ambitious initiative, driving sustainability in the world of Formula One.

The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, in collaboration with its logistics partners, is taking bold action to achieve a fully biofueled European season, following a successful trial in 2022 that demonstrated an impressive 89% reduction in CO2 freight emissions.

Eventor is playing a crucial role in supporting this innovative project, leveraging its expertise in logistics and event support to contribute to the seamless implementation of biofuel solutions.

As part of this endeavor, Eventor is working closely with the team’s fleet of Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks, responsible for transporting all race-related freight. These trucks will be fuelled with HVO100, a second-generation biofuel, as they cover approximately 9,000 to 10,000 kilometers per race.

By fully powering these journeys with HVO100, the team aims to achieve an outstanding 89% reduction in emissions per kilometer travelled. An Eventor HVO100 fuel tanker will be in present at each race meeting in the F1 calendar, and paddock generators will also be fuelled with HVO100 by Eventor.

As a proud logistics and event support provider to the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, Eventor is honoured to contribute to this significant initiative, which aligns with its own mission of championing sustainability and innovation.

What happens after I apply?

At least four weeks before the assessment day is due to take place, candidates will be filtered for their suitability to the apprenticeship scheme. If the candidate passes the filtering stage, they will then have a phone interview with the training provider, and subsequently be invited to the assessment day. During the assessment day, candidates will complete a variety of activities, including a driving assessment and group exercise. These exercises are designed to be a fun and informative experience to help the candidate decide whether a career as a driver is the right choice for them. There will also be a more formal interview with the depot management. Following the assessment day, successful candidates will be contacted and sent contracts. Any unsuccessful candidates will also be contacted with an update.

What do I do while I wait for my provisional entitlement?

While you wait for your provisional entitlement, you will be completing lessons in preparation for your Theory and Hazard perception tests. During this period, you will also be exposed to as many aspects of the industry as possible. We hope to give you a well-rounded insight into all areas while on the apprenticeship scheme, not just driving. This could include shadowing in the transport office, shadowing planners, or working in the warehouse. This experience will help your knowledge as a driver regarding routes, loading trailers, and weight distribution within the trailer. You will also be completing a series of masterclasses with the training provider which will build upon your knowledge, ready for the end-point assessment. As part of the apprenticeship, you will also need to complete ‘Off-the-job logs’, these logs must make up at least 20% of an apprentice’s normal working hours (paid hours excluding overtime) over the planned duration of the apprenticeship. The logs will also help to improve your skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed for the apprenticeship and your role as a driver.

What will I be taught on the apprenticeship?

Below is an image from one of our training providers, TPMT explaining the licence acquisition journey and the masterclasses you will be taught. While enrolled in the apprenticeship, you will complete a series of masterclasses aimed to give you a better understanding of the logistics industry, as well as improve the knowledge you will need as a Class 1 driver. Topics covered in the masterclasses include the structure of the industry, how to prepare a vehicle, and drivers hours.

Raff Hustinx, Stobart Europe Managing Director, will be assisting with finance and reporting.

“Culina Group recognises that it is investing in a highly successful business with its own great spirit.
